In early 2017, Californian natives Jeff (guitar), Scott (drums) and Greg (bass) were playing together in a blues/rock power trio called The Wall of Denial when Jeff’s old friend and singing partner from Kentucky, Aimee moved permanently back out to California. This proved to be an aligning of the musical planets and a quartet was formed.
The quartet quickly became a 5 piece when Aimee’s guitar playing younger brother Josh, also joined the band. A few months later harmonica ace J.J. White joined the band and The Backwater Ramblers lineup was complete. With Aimee’s down-home vocal style, Jeff’s ripping guitar playing and J.J.’s soaring harmonica the Ramblers bring a confidence and swagger to their original tunes that sound like they come from a by-gone era.
“You may not associate the East Bay with the terms ‘outlaw country,’ ‘roots,’ or country music in general. But The Backwater Ramblers aren’t phased by the unique place they hold in the Bay Area music landscape. They’ll swing from blues to…well, swing music…to honky-tonk country like it’s nothing. While the majority of the band hails from California or the East Coast, it’s Kentucky native lead singer Aimee Renee Wellman who provides the authenticity and soul with a touch of backwoods grit that gives The Backwater Ramblers their down-home feel.” —
